My father was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and we were all very worried about him, he was overweight and had very high blood pressure. We went to www.diabetes.org and were able to pull out tons of helpful info about how not only to manage diabetes but how to help him rediscover a new lifestyle -- for him and for all of us.

At www.diabetes.org we were able to help my father with his eating and getting more exercise which in turn helped us all get healthy.
Due to poor wound healing it's always wise to be very cautious with mosquito and other insect bites as even a mere scratch on skin can leave a wound or injury. I suggest wearing fully covered clothes to avoid such bites. At least to this extent you can avoid self-attained injuries apart from the foot ulcers.
Once foot ulcers arise it's wise to get treated as early as possible. Complete bed rest, consultation with a doctor and a proper medication are the best treatments for foot ulcers. You can find more info here at http://ezinearticles.com/?Diabetes-and-Wound-Care&id=1044886 about foot ulcers arising out of diabetes.
Misdiagnosis of diabetes
Sometimes diagnosis of diabetes is unseen. Some other underlying disease or medical condition is diagnosed which has similar symptoms as those of diabetes. For more information http://www.wrongdiagnosis.com/d/diabetes/misdiag.htm
Alternatives to consider during diagnostic process for diabetes:
1.Pancreatitis- inflammation of pancreas
2.Fructosuria- rare genetic disease that has fructose sugar in urine
3.Glucaganoma- rare form of endocrine pancreatic cancer
4.Other causes of weight loss
5.Other causes of urination symptoms
I was helping to support a patient with early Parkinson’s. This patient wanted to stay off of drugs for as long as possible. We researched http://www.parkinsons.org/ and were please to find that this very comprehensive website included information on alternative treatments as well as traditional western medicine approaches.
There is some very promising stem cell work being done for Parkinson’s patients. THIS IS NOT FOR EVERYONE TO CONSIDER, but the clinic doing this work can be found at: http://www.xcell-center.com/treatments/diseases-treated/parkinson.aspx?…
In supporting my friend we learned that daily exercise is one of the best things to counteract the effects of PD & other neurological disorders. A lack of physical activity reduces oxygen to the brain, contributes to further cell damage, and lost muscle control. For good programs: http://www.befitoverfifty.com/pages/thera.htm
Eating a well-balanced, nutritious diet is extremely beneficial. With the proper diet, our bodies work more efficiently, we have more energy, and Parkinson’s disease medications will work properly, and the side effects of these medicines can be better managed. http://www.webmd.com/parkinsons-disease/guide/eating-right
36 at the time. I know it is easy to want to jump up and say if there is cancer in my body get it out now! But I was so happy that I listened to my instincts. I really wish I had known more about asking questions like the article here http://www.cnn.com/2008/HEALTH/11/06/ep.online.second.opinions/index.ht…
After a year and a half, my primary doctor told me my markers were very high and I would need another RAI. I started calling endocrinologists. I found one, and she made a phone call and found out that the nurse recording my results had entered the wrong data, and I DIDN’T need RAI. If something doesn’t feel right, get a second opinion!!
I was diagnosed with bronchitis pneumonia when I went to my local ER room at the hospital. My cough and breathing were suppressed and the pain was unbearable. I caught this early and was given antibiotics and took special care with a humidifier and then an air purifier. I highly recommend early treatment for a speedy recovery!
The treatment of tuberculosis (TB) in the HIV-infected patient is critical and challenging for clinicians. Clinicians treating patients with TB and/or HIV need to know these new guidelines for diagnosis and co-management of the two illnesses, in order to effectively treat patients.
The complex dual treatment of TB and HIV may require more intensive monitoring and involvement of medical and allied health professionals, including patient counseling and education, directly observed therapy, and case management, to increase adherence and reduce resistance to medications.
I’ve found that one of the most difficult things is maintaining healthy body weight while taking my prescribed insulin. I found an article that helps you eat good, tasty foods and worry less about insulin induced weight gain. Of course, this needs to be paired with an exercise routine, as well: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/diabetes-diet/DA00027
If you’re female, you can often be misdiagnosed when it comes to a heart attack or Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). As one study reports, you might not even feel chest pain while still feeling fatigue, nausea, indigestion, and shortness of breath. Make sure to get gender-specific treatment. http://living.health.com/2008/04/18/keep-your-heart-healthy/
I am finding that being gentle and patient with myself has been the key to continuing the journey to sustainable self-care.
I haven't been diagnosed formally, but my general MD agreed that I have been exhibiting symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. I have decided to take my health by the horns and to research the most profound health changes I need to personally make.
I realized that in order to stay with lifestyle changes to my diet, exercise, and mental/emotional outlook, I had to allow them to become a livable part of my life.
