Our Founder

Wendie Jo Sperber was an actress, mother and breast cancer warrior. When she was diagnosed in 1997, she was devastated, yet determined to live. She soon realized that although the physical treatment was difficult, the hardest battle was to be fought on the emotional front.

Wendie’s dream was to open an independently-run cancer support center in a home-like setting.

In the fall of 2001 she opened weSPARK and her dream came true. weSPARK is a special place dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients and their families and friends.

weSPARK provides a variety of programs an opportunities for social exchange to all people, regardless of income, race, religious affiliation, age or where they go for treatment.

Scarcely a person in this country has been untouched by this disease; either by a personal diagnosis or by knowing and loving someone who has had cancer. This disease must be combated psychologically and emotionally, as well as physically.

At weSPARK, everyone can express their fears and concerns in a safe, understanding and loving environment. Thanks to the support of our community and awe-inspiring volunteers, Wendie’s dream continues to be fulfilled every day.
