The Beginning

Diagnosis
I made my husband go to the doctor. He had a toe infection that wouldn't heal. We assumed that it was an ingrown toenail that was acting up.

He called me crying. It turns out that he has diabetes. The doctor lectured him about how diet and exercise won't cure it. The doctor wasn't very understand and in fact spent more time complaining about how my husband was young, didn't have any other symptoms and wasn't going to care or follow his directions! I wanted to beat that dr up so much I didn't know I could get so angry.

I blamed myself for bringing junk food into the house and for buying fast food. I know it wasn't all my fault--I was very pregnant and working 12 hour days. I just didn't have time to cook and was so tired I bought prepared everything.

His sugars were above 500 at diagnosis and his A1C is 9.

We have found a new doctor who is helping us find out if his diabetes is type 1 or 2. He is 26 and within normal weight range so his first doctor assumed it was type 1 late onset but this new doctor thinks that might not be the case.

With our new daughter as motivation we hope to get back on a healthy track and get my husband off insulin and maybe even drugs altogether.
