PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!
I have Hep C which has turned into cirrhosis. 70% cirrhosis, 30% hep C so I was told while in the hospital to get on a transplant list as soon as possible. That was 10 months ago! The doctors said they could not treat my Hep C because it would kill me. I cannot find a way to accomplish financially getting on a transplant list.
My Social Security Income is too high to qualify for Medicaid. I will not qualify for another year for Medicare (two year wait from beginning of Social Security Disability). I have no insurance because I was fired from my job 2 years ago. I tried to go back to work and none of the jobs worked out. I now know it had to do with the ammonia in my brain, etc. was keeping me from being able to work.
It is all so frustrating because I worked hard all my life and now have nothing!!
I am signed up on a program with a county hospital that makes it possible for me to get medicine to keep my liver working. However, John Peter Smith does not do liver transplants so they have to refer me to Baylor Hospital and that is where the problem lies. I have no way to cover the bill at Baylor. I am trying to get qualified to take advantage of a program they have there that will pay the hospital bill. But, I am still left with the bill for the doctor. I have got to find a way to raise/get the money for the doctor part of the bill and possibly the hospital also if I don't qualify for their program.
Please help me - I am so lost. I have no one to handle this for me. I had insurance all my life and am not familiar with all these programs. I just find it hard to believe that in the greatest country in the world if you don't have enough money- YOU DIE!!! I have checked with friends in other countries on Facebook and it isn't that way in their country. England, for example.
