My girlfriend tested positive for the BRCA1 gene which means her risk of developing breast and/or ovarian cancer is greatly increased. Her mother survived breast and ovarian cancer. My girlfriend has developed several benign cysts that we're keeping an eye on. She receives biopsies, pelvic exams and a yearly MRI (insurance wont cover the recommended 2/year). I'm trying to be as informed as possible in the event she becomes ill.
