The Child-Life Program serves both the Pediatric Inpatient Unit and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. Armed with a strong background in child development and family systems, child-life specialists promote effective coping through play, preparation, education and self-expression activities. Services are provided in the playroom or at the bedside.

The goals of the Child-Life Program are:
Encouraging optimal development of children facing a broad range of challenging experiences
Educating patients and families and reducing their stress and anxiety
Providing normal or home-like activities and experiences as needed for growth and development
Creating opportunities for children to express their feelings and to bolster self-esteem and independence
Providing emotional support for families
Giving special attention to children facing health care and hospitalization challenges
Helping families schedule hospital tours and individual pre-hospitalization visits
